NYC 911 Cancer Claim Attorneys

Wherever You Live Today, We Can Help if You Were in One of the September 11 Exposure Zones

After the 9/11 terrorist attacks, New Yorkers picked up the pieces and tried to get the City back on its feet. This took the efforts of everyone. From the thousands of first responders and volunteers to the downtown workers and area residents, each person played a vital role in helping the City try to recover.

Unfortunately, the environmental studies conducted after 9/11 confirm, beyond any doubt or question, that anyone present within a mile and a half of Ground Zero (or essentially anywhere in Lower Manhattan) on 9/11 or during the days and many months that followed were exposed to hundreds of toxins. As a result, thousands have received diagnoses of many different types of cancer, lung conditions, and a host of other illnesses — cancers and diseases all directly linked to the exposure to the 9/11 fallout. Many who were exposed to the 9/11 toxins have also since passed away.

At Hansen & Rosasco, LLP, we have a full-time legal team devoted to helping our clients get the medical care and treatment they deserve through the World Trade Center Health Program. Our 9/11 lawyers then work diligently to help you file a Victim Compensation Fund claim if you are eligible. Our law firm has helped responders, survivors, and their families recover some of the largest monetary awards from the VCF to date. That is because helping those sickened by the September 11th toxins is all we do.

If you live in New York and believe you might qualify for the WTC Health Program or VCF, we are close by. You can find us in Midtown Manhattan at 767 Third Avenue, Suite 2410, just blocks from Grand Central Station or the E train stop at Lexington Avenue. Our Midtown location allows us to provide east access to clients from Manhattan and other outer boroughs as well as Long Island and Westchester County. So whether you live in Manhattan or in the suburbs, we can help. We also offer remote services for survivors and families that live across the United States—people who worked or lived in the exposure zone and have since moved away, while many of the out-of-area responders and volunteers who flooded into the city to help with the rescue and cleanup efforts returned home long ago.

A Dedicated New York 9/11 Law Firm Serving Residents and Visitors

Since 2001, our attorneys have helped the 9/11 families and survivors obtain the compensation and care they needed. From first responders to downton workers, residents, and students, our firm’s founding partners Troy Rosasco and Dan Hansen have devoted their careers to only representing 9/11 victims and their families. This focus and dedication enables Hansen & Rosasco, LLP, to give our clients skilled legal guidance every step of the way.

In the weeks that followed September 11, our founding partner Troy Rosasco received a message from a widow who lost her husband in the tragedy. We took on her case free of charge and helped her and her children receive the compensation they deserved. From that day, we never looked back. Our attorneys still proudly represent first responders, survivors, victims, residents, workers, students, and families who spent time in Lower Manhattan after the September 11 attack. We even worked tirelessly with the entire 9/11 community to lobby for their rights and funding from the beginning.

Attorney Daniel Hansen has obtained more than a quarter of a billion dollars in VCF payouts for our clients. He represents more than 4,500 clients with 9/11 VCF claims at our law firm. He also represented more than 2,000 plaintiffs in a landmark federal 9/11 case that seeks to hold the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia liable under the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act. That lawsuit is being prosecuted on the claim that the Saudis actively provided material support (and funding) to several of the September 11th terrorist hijackers that allowed them to train, prepare, and then engage in the hijackings and attacks, including on the Pentagon and the World Trade Center.

Attorney Troy Rosasco has also handled some of the largest 9/11 cases in the country. He is also an adjunct professor of law at St. John’s University School of Law where he teaches others about the VCF and WTC Health Program.

When other law firms have questions about 9/11 compensation, they often refer their own clients and family members to Hansen & Rosasco, LLP, as the “go-to” firms to handle 9/11 claims.

As the 9/11 laws changed and significantly evolved throughout the years, we have been right there, helping our clients navigate the changes. We have been on the front lines fighting for their rights to get laws passed in Congress and day-to-day prosecuting claims before the Victim Compensation Fund.

Fighting For 9/11 Victim Rights on the Front Lines

Our Director of 9/11 Outreach and Education, Phil Alvarez, is the brother of the late Luis Alvarez. Luis is one of the heroes the Never Forget the Heroes: James Zadroga, Ray Pfiefer, and Luis Alvarez Permanent Authorization of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund Act is named after.

Phil was on the front lines, making trips to Washington, D.C., with his brother to lobby for the permanent authorization of the VCF. Their appeals helped Congress pass the law and extend the deadline for victims and their families until 2090. It also ensured full funding of both the WTC Health Program and the VCF, so money would never run out. This way, victims and survivors, as well as their family members, could obtain the benefits and compensation they deserved.

Phil knows what it is like to watch a loved one battle 9/11 cancer and the pain of losing them. Because of his personal connection and dedication to September 11 survivors and responders, he can offer victims and families the compassionate comfort they need as they navigate the VCF legal process with us.

Can Our New York 9/11 Office Help You?

Many of our clients call us wanting to know if our 9/11 lawyers can help them. Perhaps they worked downtown in 2001 or 2002, and recently received a cancer diagnosis. Or maybe they lost a loved one to a 9/11-related cancer. Perhaps they lived or went to school near Ground Zero. People from all walks of life call our offices looking for help.

Our clients often have many questions when they first call us. They want to know if they qualify for help, if they can get compensation, and how much compensation they can receive. These are all valid questions, and our attorneys will take the time to sit down (or videoconference) with you and answer all of your questions thoroughly.

Our 9/11 lawyers start by listening to your story and getting to know you better. We want to hear where you were on 9/11 or during the months that followed. We want to know more about your injury or illness. We also want to know more about your life and the issues you face. This helps us determine how best to assist you through the process, and what benefits you may qualify for.

Once you hire us to represent you, we can begin the process of helping you obtain WTC Health Program approval and VCF compensation. In fact, over 80 percent of all 9/11 victims choose to file both their WTC Health Program application and 9/11 VCF claim through a law firm.

The application process takes time and a considerable knowledge of 9/11 federal laws and regulations. That is where we come in. To apply for the WTC Health Program, we will obtain specific documentation of your presence in the Exposure Zone between September 11, 2001, and July 31, 2002. The WTC Health Program Exposure Zone includes the area of Lower Manhattan that is south of Houston Street, as well as some parts of Brooklyn, including Brooklyn Heights.

We will also establish that you have a qualifying medical condition or cancer. More than 70 cancers qualify for WTC Health Program benefits—with our attorneys and staff knowing what’s needed to prove the connection between September 11 and your illness.. If you have contracted more than one 9/11 illness or condition, you can seek additional compensation.

In most cases, all that you need to do is attend a physical exam with a WTC Health Program doctor. Our lawyers will handle the rest.

To help approve your claim, we may need to gather proof, interview witnesses, draft affidavits, and prepare a large set of federal forms. We may also need to write legal briefs in support of your claim — with the goal of getting you the maximum compensation. This can help your claim get processed quickly and efficiently, so you can begin receiving the medical coverage and payment of compensation as soon as possible.

Once you receive WTC Health Program approval and certification that your illness is 9/11 related, we can then proceed to file for VCF compensation. Eligibility with the WTC Health Program, however, is not a guarantee of compensation from the VCF.

To qualify for VCF compensation, you must have been present in the VCF Exposure Zone between September 11, 2001, and May 30, 2002.

9/11 Victim Compensation Fund Eligibility Map

The Exposure Zone for 9/1 VCF compensation is smaller than the Exposure Zone for WTC Health Program medical benefits.

As such, some clients will qualify for WTC Health Program benefits but not VCF compensation — but it is important to speak with a dedicated 9/11 lawyer to learn how to best qualify for both 9/11 programs. To obtain compensation, you must have been present in Lower Manhattan south of the line that runs along Canal Street. This includes the areas from the Hudson River to the intersection of Canal and East Broadway, north of East Broadway to Clinton Street, and Clinton Street to the East River.

Our attorneys know how to maximize your award because we know the forms, federal regulations, and laws and how to navigate them efficiently. Even though the VCF and WTC Health Program have full funding and victims have until 2090 to file a claim and collect compensation, there are still deadlines.

The sooner your file, the faster you gain eligibility. Anyone with a health condition certified by the WTC Health Program over a year ago must register with the VCF by July 29, 2021. So, you must act quickly. This makes it even more important to contact our New York law offices.

Over 300,000 downtown workers, at least 57,000 residents, and more than 25,000 students may still find that they can obtain eligibility and collect an award from the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund.
