Women with Uterine Cancer Finally Able to Receive 9/11 Victim Benefits

Finally, a silver lining for women 9/11 cancer victims. The World Trade Center Health (WTC) Program has issued the final rule adding all types of uterine cancer, including endometrial cancer, to the List of WTC-Related Health Conditions (List) effective January 18, 2023.

Now, as of 1/18/2023, women diagnosed with all types of uterine and endometrial cancer, going back to September 11, 2005 (after the four-year latency period has run), can have their cancers “certified” by the WTC Health Program and receive lifetime free medical care for uterine cancer at some of the top cancer institutions in the country if they choose. Once their uterine cancer is certified, they may also be eligible for compensation from the $10 billion 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund.

The 9/11 cancer claim lawyers at Hansen & Rosasco, LLP have been petitioning the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) for inclusion of uterine and endometrial cancers to be added to that list of almost 70 types of cancer that are qualified as a condition to receive health benefits from the WTC Health Program and compensation from the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund (VCF). The unjust omission of uterine and endometrial cancer from the list of 68 covered 9/11 related cancers has been an insult to women for the past ten (10) years. Finally, the government has done the right thing and corrected its long-standing error of excluding uterine cancer.

Hansen & Rosasco will immediately begin enrolling all our uterine and endometrial cancer clients into the WTC Health Program. We have already registered their claims with the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund. Once certification is complete, we will be able to expeditiously move to get them the compensation they deserve from the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund. If you have previously been diagnosed with uterine or endometrial cancer anytime since 9/11, call us today so we can file a claim on your behalf given the new tule today.

Hansen & Rosasco believes hundreds, if not thousands, were waiting for a determination from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). As of January 18, 2023, Uterine Cancer has officially been added to the list of 9/11 illnesses and is eligible for 9/11 healthcare benefits and compensation.

In 2011, with the passage of the Zadroga Act, the World Trade Center Health Program (WTC Health Program) was established to provide lifetime healthcare to everyone who suffers from the many diseases, which includes over 68 types of cancer, caused by breathing the toxic dust and fumes that hung in the air over lower Manhattan in the months after 9/11. This program delivers free medical monitoring and healthcare to survivors with 9/11-related illnesses.

Many were outraged about the omission of uterine cancer from the long list of other cancers that were proven to be linked to the toxic dust present after the 9/11 attacks. Although women didn’t make up a large percentage of the first responders at 9/11, women make up a large percentage of the downtown workers, residents, students, and teachers that were in the exposure zone during 9/11 and the many months after. It takes 9/11 community advocates to fight and give a voice to these women for change to take place, and we’re glad to finally see this addition.

Women that are diagnosed with uterine cancer will likely need chemotherapy, radiation, medication, and surgeries, which are now, as of January 18, 2023, covered by the federal government. These women are also eligible for a $250,000+ tax-free award from the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund because uterine cancer is now a qualified condition by the World Trade Center Health Program.

With over 70 types of cancer now qualified by the WTCHP, it’s important to contact the 9/11 cancer claim attorneys at Hansen & Rosasco, LLP, at 1-855-416-7256 to find out if you’re eligible for lifetime healthcare and tax-free compensation for 9/11 related uterine and endometrial.
