How Long will the VCF be open for new claims?

The James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act of 2010 was reauthorized when signed into law by President Obama on December 18, 2015. The Reauthorization Act extends the VCF for five years, allowing individuals to submit their claims until December 18, 2020.

It is important to note, however, that while the VCF is open to new claims until December 18, 2020, there are many other deadlines that must be met in order to file a claim.

If a deadline is missed (and most deadlines are well before December 20, 2020), a claim will be denied for the failure to meet the rule and requirements of the Victim Compensation Fund. These deadlines are strictly enforced and the VCF Special Master has no discretion to extend any deadlines, even in the cases of disability or extreme hardship.
