A large health care services company that has been providing nationwide health evaluations, monitoring exams, diagnostic services, and treatment for survivors of the 9/11 attacks through the World Trade Center Health Program (WTCHP) recently announced an expansion of its role in this vital, life-saving program.

OptumServe’s Logistics Health Inc. was issued a two-year contract by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health to provide screenings and care for those with 9/11-related illnesses who reside within the New York metropolitan area. The company had previously been providing services elsewhere throughout the country through the WTCHP’s Nationwide Provider Network (NPN).

The WTCHP provides cost-free health screenings, medical monitoring and treatment for 9/11 emergency responders and others who have been diagnosed with a covered cancer or other eligible condition under the WTCHP and have had their conditions certified as 9/11-related by a WTCHP physician. Once certified, members of the WTCHP are eligible to receive comprehensive care and treatment. The WTCHP will cover all medically necessary diagnostic evaluation and treatment expenses for certified conditions, including:

  • Inpatient hospitalization
  • Inpatient surgeries
  • Outpatient procedures
  • Chemotherapy
  • Prescription medications

Clinical Centers of Excellence and the Nationwide Provider Network

Under its new contract with the federal government, OptumServe is now providing health care services throughout the entire WTCHP system. That system is comprised of two main groups of providers:

  • For those in the New York metropolitan area with 9/11-related conditions, treatment and care is available at one of seven Clinical Centers of Excellence, many of which have clinics at multiple locations throughout New York and New Jersey. For example, Memorial Sloan Kettering is an in-network provider with the WTCHP.
  • For those outside of New York, treatment is available to WTC, Pentagon, and Shanksville, PA first responders and other survivors of that terrible day through the WTCHP’s Nationwide Provider Network (NPN). The NPN helps WTCHP members find providers close to where they live so that they don’t have to travel to the New York area to start or continue their treatment. You can call 1-888-982-4748 to find an NPN provider near you, or you can contact the 9/11 lawyers at Turley Hansen & Rosasco who can assist you with the process of applying for and receiving 9/11 victim compensation and treatment.
