Although first responders, including firefighters, police officers and others, make up the majority of eligible claimants before the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund, there are other groups of individuals with 9/11 cancers who are considered “survivors” and are also eligible to make a compensation claim at the VCF. Essentially, any person who was in the “9/11 crash site area” (generally see map below) between 9/11/2001 and 5/30/2002 may be eligible for compensation from the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund.
