9/11 World Trade Center Health Program 2017 Anniversary Statement of John Howard, MD
The 9/11 World Trade Center Health Program is an essential part of the 9/11 James Zadroga Act passed by Congress in 2010. The program provides 100% health care coverage to 9/11 responders and survivors for both physical and psychological conditions related to their 9/11 related illnesses. Last week, Dr. John Howard, the Director of the Program, issued the above video statement regarding the status of the program on it 7 th anniversary.
When new potential clients call our office for lawyer representation in a 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund claim, they are often unaware of the important and potentially life saving benefits the World Trade Center Health Program provides. If they are not already part of the program, we assist them in filing the application so that they can have “health insurance” for 9/11 related conditions for life. Such assistance can include obtaining documents to establish their “proof of presence in the crash site area”.
The 9/11 World Trade Center Health Program does not have any deductible or co-pays, and you can see some of the best doctors in the world with this insurance. For instance, if you live in the New York City area and have a 9/11 related cancer, you can get treatment at top hospitals such as Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Mt. Sinai Medical Center WTC Health Progam, NYU Langone Medical Center and New York-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center, Northwell Health, Stony Brook Medical Center WTC Wellness Program and Rutgers University Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. The institutions in bold are deemed Clinical Centers of Excellence by the WTC Health Program given their expertise in treating 9/11 responders and survivors.
In addition , for those responders and survivors who have moved out of the New York area, the World Trade Center Health Program has a nationwide network of hospitals, clinics and physicians across the country for 9/11 responders and survivors.
Besides treatment and monitoring, one of the most important functions of the 9/11 World Trade Center Health Program is the “certification of 9/11 related illnesses”. Without “certification” of at least one 9/11 physical illness, such as cancer or respiratory diseases, a claimant cannot receive an award of compensation from the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund. This is why the 9/11 attorneys at Turley, Hansen & Rosasco work so closely with our clients on the certification process.
