Latest statistics posted by Special Master Sheila Birnbaum on the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund’s website shows major progress in the processing of claims. After reviewing the latest statistics it is apparent that the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund has been moving quicker in determining eligibility.
Release of payouts are steadily climbing as the fund continues to diligently review claims that have been submitted and complete. This progress can be attributed to procedure improvements over the past year. Some of the most notable statistics that Special Master Sheila Birnbaum has reported on are the following:
- As of January 2, 2015, out of all registered Claimants, 18,148 have submitted eligibility forms and 9,677 have been determined eligible. The remaining 7, 412 claims cannot be determined eligible due to missing documents such as proof, medical certification and other missing required documents.
- Out of the 9, 677 Claimants who were determined eligible, 6,193 have submitted the compensation portion of the claim and 3,128 compensation decisions have been established.
- The VCF has made compensation determinations in the amount of $804,116,233.
- Out of all the Claimants that have had compensation determinations, 2,691 are first responders, 397 non responders and 35 are injured residents.
