What Medical Conditions Does the World Trade Center Health Program Cover?
The World Trade Center (WTC) Health Program covers a host of 9/11-related illnesses and provides medical and mental health services at no cost to those who meet eligibility requirements for the Program.
What is covered?
The WTC Health Program covers the costs associated with the monitoring and treatment services of adverse health conditions, including cancer, that resulted from exposure to the toxic air from the 9/11 terrorist attacks. (View a complete list of Covered Conditions.) This means qualifying members can have access to compassionate and high-quality treatment and care without having to pay any out-of-pocket expenses, including copayments or deductibles. Members of the WTC Health Program who have cancer can receive medical care at many of the top cancer centers in the country, such as Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
Here is how it breaks down. The Program will cover costs associated with a survivor’s care when he or she:
- Uses healthcare providers and pharmacies that are affiliated with the Program.
- Seeks care for a condition that is “certified” through the Program to be 9/11-related.
- Has his or her treatment approved or authorized by the WTC Health Program before it is administered.
Who is covered?
If you or a loved were directly affected and became ill on account of the September 11th terrorist attacks in New York, the Pentagon in Washington D.C., or in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and were diagnosed with an illness that you believe might be 9/11-related, you may be part of an eligible group that qualifies for benefits through the WTC Health Program.
