But Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky), who has publicly said he supports passage, wants to add certain “pay-fors” in order to fund the spending needed for both the health care and compensation portions of the Zadroga Extension. He is willing to add the Zadroga Act Extension to the Omnibus bill which Congress votes on this Friday only if he gets his “pay-fors”.

In light of the recent ISIS attacks in Paris, and the strong likelihood that the United States will need it’s first responders to selflessly rescue and recover more American victims in the future after future attacks similar to 9/11, the need to pass the Zadroga Act re-authorization is more urgent than ever. Medical care for 9/11 responders has already expired. It is time that the House and Senate work out any legislative differences and allow the Zadroga Act Extension bill to come to the vote on the floor.

Study Shows Cancer Rate Soars in Ground Zero Cops After 9/11

Staff from the NYPD, along with Columbia University, New York Presbyterian Medical Center and Weill-Cornell Medical College conducted the study, finding police officers who worked at Ground Zero had a staggering 50 percent more diagnoses of cancer than police officers in the department prior to 9/11.
